Diaper Cakes

Question: How can i advertise diaper cakes for sale?

I make diaper cakes and are wanting to try and sell them and make custom diaper cakes to be able to stay home more with my new baby. i have them listed on craigs list and on the first day i had a lady call and order one i sold it and they loved it and i was actually givin a $10 tip for it. I just dont know other ways to advertise around town. i cant do ebaysince shipping would be way too expensive and i wouldnt get any profit for it unless i charged tripple what it cost to make. what other ways can i advertise that are better ways to advertise i have thought of making flyers with color pictures that have the pull tabs with my phone number and myspace page on it with a few pictures of my cakes i have made. i could put a sign on my car but tht can get expensive putting small flyers on doors you can see the cakes i have made at www.myspace.com/ kristas_kakes a diaper cake is a stack of diapers that are rolled up and put together with ribbons to make it look like a cake some what to the way a wedding cake would look stacked on each other. and there are baby related items such as lotion, baby soap, bibs blankets onesie pacifiers etc

Maybe put some flyers up or around baby stores. Tell your friends and see if they know anyone who might be interested, like word of mouth. Keep posting on craigslist.

Maybe an ad in the local newspaper, those usually run pretty cheap.

I am sure there are baby resale shops around your town, you could put some flyers up there You could also post an ad in the paper. Talk with your local paper and see how much it would cost to take out an ad. Also, maybe a weekly newsletter or coupon book (We have the Pennysaver here) Maybe a local radio station or local television station. I am not sure what kind of volume you want, but you could always ask them to do a small clip during the evening news in your town.

My cousin makes those too...they are awesome! She really puts her heart into them and they come out incredible. I don't know if this is the case with the retailers in your area...but Babies R' Us gives people who sign up for a registry a informational packet about products, ratings and such. But, there is also an advertisement booklet tucked in there and my cousin pays $50ish bucks a quarter...so about $200 a year to get her info in there. Her results have been HUGE. She had to hire an assistant to help her fill all these orders. Assuming you take the time to do good, quality work...I think if you advertise properly, you could make a good income out of it. Try selling your idea to a local bakery or make them and sell them to them.

I've seen a couple questions now about these "diaper cakes. " What the HELL is it? It sounds gross.
