What do you think of this diaper cake?

Question: What do you think of this diaper cake?

(Posted by: Live with no regrets on 2009-07-13 22:12:46)

I just started making diaper cakes and i got my first order for one that has the colors to match a baby shower theme of light purple lime green pink and butterflies. what do you think of it. i am selling it for $60 but not making much profit. the box of diapers were $20 and i used just about all the diapers in the box and the toy was $11 then the travel items a total of 4 were a dollar each so $4 pair of socks $2 was a pack of 3 that sold for $6 pacifier $2 was in pack of 2 for $4 spoon and fork $.75 was in pack of set of 3 for $2 or so ribbon was $4 but i got for half off so i would normally pay $8 for the ribbon not to mention the glue and tissue paper to cover the board the cake sits on. and hours of my time making the cake and shopping for the items on it. spend 2 hours just looking for sone sort of small butterfly what do you think of it and how much would you cahrge knowing how much it took to make it http:/ / viewmorepics.myspace.com/ index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage &friendID=92534431 &albumID=2536701 &imageID=42832547 i also have these two http:/ / viewmorepics.myspace.com/ index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage &friendID=92534431 &albumID=2536701 &imageID=42722851 http:/ / viewmorepics.myspace.com/ index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage &friendID=92534431 &albumID=2536701 &imageID=42832800 oh and so you know the spot on the top layer is a mirror that hangs from the toy on top i am going to try and find a way to hide it.

You should charge 75 - 100 for that. It's very cute and i've made them before and it takes time. I would at least charge enough to make a larger profit. Also, if you are going to be doing this alot then i would buy lots of boy and girl things in bulk so that when you need to make one you won't have to go out and spend so much :)

Those are SO cute! I say sell them for $100. I'm sure you can get it for that!

I'd expect to pay $75 and up! Those are soooo cute!

Omg! These are sooo cute! I would definitley sell them for 80-120 dollars. It looks like you put a lot of hard work into these. Very adorable.

Thats adorable, I would suggest selling on ebay, people buy them at outragous prices. I would also suggest buying products on sale and with coupons, or in bulk. which shoudl save you money in creating these cakes, hence more profit

I think it's ADORBLE! Your very talented! I was thinking of getting a diaper cake for decoration at baby shower in November, but I don't know where I can get one. But I love the ones you made! I would probably pay up to $100 for the one with the butterfly, because it sounds, and looks like you put a lot of time and effort into making it.

For that big one, I say 100-125, for the smaller pink one, i think 50-75 is fair.

Diaper cakes are usually $40+ depending what you put on them. They look great! I myself made a diaper cake once, yes it costs alot of money! My suggestion, if you want to make a business out of it, try finding places you can buy your ribbon & "goodies " in bulk. Buy diapers on sale. Collect as many free samples as possible. (Even sign up for free products & coupons on baby food & formula websites.) look at outlet stores, or dollar stores for items as well. A Business will Always cost you alot of money in the beginning. You can always explain the "breakdown " to the person you are selling it to. This way they will see how much the products cost you, and how many hours you put into making it.

They are too CUTE!!! Normally U should double to triple the cost of how much U spent to make these. So dbl would B $83.50 and 3x's would B $125.25! I would probably spend $75. to $100. for the layered baby cake! You could also...try and buy in bulk or buy at the dollar stores when you can!!

I think those are VERY VERY cute much better than any of mine I have ever made. Since you said your just starting to make and sell them than I think $60 is fair. But you do have 3 done already and you should be able to start raising your prices (I have seen some sites sell them for those sizes at around $100- $150) especially if you get a few more to show off. Also what you could do is one when you see sales buy some of the materials, and buy like big boxes of diapers. This way you can have some of the materials already and since they were on sale there a little bit cheaper. You also could make just a few more for display and set-up a website to start selling them. Etsy.com is a place to sell home-made items. You can show the ones you do have so people can see a variety of them and then you can mention how you also do special orders!

Those are ADORABLE!!! You should charge around $80-100...it seems high but it is a lot of stuff and time...very neat! Good luck with your mini business
